Chatham Elementary Honors Veterans

Chatham Elementary School celebrated Veterans Day by inviting local veterans to a program at the school. The purpose of the program was to honor those who served in the armed forces, and to teach the students that freedom is not free. Ava Miller read a poem, Mrs. JoAnn Hightower, Cafeteria Manager, read a poem that she wrote, students sang Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the USA, and everyone sang The Star Spangled Banner. “It was a timely lesson that we were able to conduct in the context of a special program. The students gained an appreciation for our veterans’ sacrifices, and the veterans were honored in a way that made them proud of their service” said Chatham Elementary principal Wanda Carter.
