PCS Revised Guidance for COVID-19 Prevention

The Interim Guidance for Covid19 in Virginia PreK-12 Schools provided by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) highlights key prevention strategies that align with the current Covid risk.

PCS’ new procedures related to those recommendations are as follows:


Health Services

 

Stay home if you are sick.

Return to school when you are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

 

 

If You Test Positive for COVID-19 (Isolate)

 

 

 

 

Everyone, regardless of vaccination status

  • Stay home for 5 days
  • If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can leave your house.
    • Continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days
    • Masks are required for students to return to school on days 6-10 of quarantine/isolation.If a parent elects for their child to not wear a mask, or a student is unable to wear a mask, the child must remain home for the full 10 day quarantine/isolation period.
  • Report your positive test result the same as you report when you are out sick.

 

If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves.

If You Were Exposed to Someone with COVID-19

Quarantine is no longer routinely recommended after exposure to COVID-19 infected individuals.
